Sandy MacDonald started Sandy’s Light Oilfield Hauling (as it was known then) with a single red 1969 Chevrolet Heavy Half. By adopting a never-say-no attitude and always putting the customer first, Sandy soon saw his volume of work increase and realized very quickly that his single pickup would not suffice. Through word of mouth and an outstanding reputation for service, one customer became many, and soon Sandy was operating a fleet of trucks servicing all of western Canada.
Over the years Sandy’s expanded and diversified — delivering electrical equipment to communities in blackout at all hours, camps to house firefighters during wildfire season, and facilities to house the security personnel for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. When the job is important and time is critical, we get the call.
Service, dependability, and a solid work ethic are values Sandy himself espoused, and everyone here takes pride in embodying them every day.
Centrally located in Nisku, Alberta, we service the western provinces and territories. Our location is ideal both as a distribution point for regional work or as a hub for larger projects further afield. Our facility itself is a 31-acre fully secured, fenced and lighted compound including our OCTG storage facility and our shops.
As a licensed commercial vehicle inspection facility, we perform all of our own service in our fully-equipped shop. We also have a full-service welding and fabrication facility where we rig up our own trucks and specialized trailers.
Our people make us great. We’re a family company and we treat our staff like family. Our turnover rate is very low for the industry (we still have employees who have been with us since day one!), which lets us offer a level of experience hard to match anywhere else.
Safety is more than just a buzzword at Sandy’s — it is a core value. Any business which sacrifices safe operating procedures for volume or profit will have neither for very long. Part of the secret of our longevity in an industry rife with fly-by-night operators is that we understand the value in doing the job right the first time.
Our drivers are subject to random drug screening, maintain all relevant tickets (including H2S, WHMIS, TDG, CSTS and First Aid), and are retrained at regular intervals. Our Health & Safety officer and management are also subject to regular training to keep abreast of changes in the industry, common practices and the Health & Labour code.
